Lead Product Owner for the development of digital vehicle-related services

With the newly founded company MBition GmbH - a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler AG - we are creating a powerful team for navigation, location-based services, vehicle-related services, user experience and user interaction in Berlin. At this company, we are developing and implementing new UX/UI concepts and strengthening our expertise in the forward-looking areas of connected, autonomous and shared services and electric mobility.

The main development focal points include new functions for hybrid and electric vehicles as well as new services to personalize our vehicles. In order to ensure a premium customer experience we want to develop, implement and carry out these functions and services holistically at MBition.

Duties:

  • Set up, provide strategic guidance to and manage a concept and software development team for digital vehicle-related services with up to 30 developers
  • Technical and disciplinary management of the developer team
  • Assume full product ownership and prioritize activities in line with customer needs to ensure on-time delivery of the concepts and the software
  • Ensure a holistic, customer-friendly user experience in line with the project milestones for the overall system
  • Analyze the requirements for front-end functions, both inside the vehicle and out (head unit, instrument cluster, apps, portal, language assistants), as well as back-end functions
  • Coordinate technical implementation of software and the product development roadmap with internal and external development partners
  • Manage implementation of the concept and the software according to an agile development model
  • Ensure the integration, testing and approval of the developed scopes
  • Responsibility for the operation and management of the developed services

Your profile

  • Degree in computer science, media informatics or a similar field
  • Several years of experience in the technical and disciplinary management of development teams
  • System knowledge and familiarity with the trends and developments in mobile, consumer and automotive UX/UI
  • Knowledge of distributed and networked vehicle functions in the area of telematics as well as knowledge of services, data transmission concepts and data management in IT systems
  • Several years of experience in software development for the front and back ends of commercial projects
  • Practical experience in agile software development and the related development methods (e.g., Scrum)
  • Experience using tools for concept development and the creation of prototypes
  • Knowledge of specifications and testing
  • Programming knowledge in object-oriented languages as well as web applications
  • Proficient in German and English
  • Communication and teamwork skills, and an independent, self-motivated approach to work

Lead Product Owner User Interface Software

Duties:

  • Set up, provide strategic guidance to and manage a software development team of 10 to 15 developers
  • Technical and disciplinary management of the developer team
  • Assume product responsibility for user interface software modules from conception to series production
  • Analyze the requirements for the user interfaces of our infotainment systems (head unit, instrument cluster, head-up display)
  • Manage and prioritize development scopes in an agile development model
  • Assume full product ownership and prioritize activities in line with customer needs to ensure on-time delivery of the software
  • Coordinate with internal and external software implementation partners on the product development roadmap
  • Ensure a holistic, customer-friendly user experience in line with the project milestones for the overall system
  • Ensure the timely integration of the software modules in the overall system
  • Technical coordination of the implementation of the software with the relevant development partners (internal and external)

Since our UI development process is based on an agile procedure model, any knowledge and experience, for example through working on agile development projects, would be an advantage (e.g. using SCRUM).

Your profile

  • Degree in computer science or a comparable qualification
  • 1-3 years of experience in the technical and disciplinary management of development teams
  • 3-5 years of experience in the area of series software development, preferably in the embedded, mobile or automotive area
  • Experience in developing automotive, mobile or embedded graphical interfaces on commercial projects
  • Very good knowledge of object-oriented software development
  • Very good knowledge of C/C++, experience in Qt/QML advantageous
  • Practical experience in agile software development and the related development methods (e.g., Scrum)
  • Practical experience in working with agile software development tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence)
  • Proficient German and English
  • Communication and teamwork skills, and an independent, self-motivated approach to work

About your role:

As Product Owner you will be a driving force that enables development of infotainment systems that brings the desired user experience to the user of the car. 

You will be focusing on leading the definition of user stories that build up to a set of features defined on a high level by a function owner and make sure key attributes for those features are maintained throughout the realization of the user stories being defined. You will also judge what drives value to end-user when it comes to details in feature scope and contribute to the planning of user story and feature implementation.

In your daily work environment you will be working in close collaboration with a development team that is dedicated for development of the features, you are responsible for. You will also collaborate with other Product Owners responsible for other feature verticals.
